Calexico began as a tent encampment in 1899 and was formally incorporated on April 16, 1908, as a gateway for commerce and settlement in the Imperial Valley. Its name is a deliberate merger of California and Mexico, marking its position on the international boundary. The city sits at an elevation of just 3 feet above sea level, in Imperial County's southeastern corner, directly adjacent to Mexicali, the capital of Baja California.

The 2020 census recorded 38,633 residents in Calexico, with 97 percent identifying as Hispanic or Latino. The city maintains strong family and economic ties with Mexicali across the border, and in 2017 established a formal sister city relationship to deepen those connections. Calexico is officially known as "the International Gateway City," reflecting its role as a place where people, goods and cultures flow between two nations.

A community with so many cross-border family ties has specific insurance needs: coverage that works across state and national boundaries, and protection for households with dependents on both sides. A term life policy sized to your household's actual obligations and income years ensures that the people you name will be cared for, regardless of where they make their home.
